Artisan License

  • No. You don’t need a license to create products from the purchased fabric itself. You only need a license if you want to get the seamless pattern file and have it printed with your preferred local fabric print partner.

You are most welcome to buy fabrics from my Spoonflower shop, make your beautiful items, and sell them if you wish. I’d love to see them!

  • The Artisan License is a simple, low-cost agreement that lets small business makers use one of my designs to print onto fabric via a preferred printing partner, and then create handmade products from the fabric. This license is non-exclusive, valid for one year, and ideal for small-batch or seasonal collections.

This license is perfect for you if you’re a crafter or independent maker creating your own products in limited quantities to sell locally, for example on market stalls, or via your online shop, such as on Etsy or your own website.

  • The Artisan License covers up to 100 finished handmade products made within one year using the design. This includes printing enough fabric to produce up to 100 of those items.

The handmade items can be all the same product or a mixture of products (for example pet bandanas and collars), but the total number of items must not exceed the small-batch limit of 100.

If you plan to produce more than this, or your business is moving toward larger-scale or wholesale production, please get in touch to discuss a Commercial License that will better suit your needs.

  • You’re welcome to use the design on physical handmade fabric products that you create yourself (the fabric can be produced by your local print partner). Examples of handmade products include:

    • Home decor such as cushions, table runners, placemats, lampshades, tea towels, oven mitts, napkins

    • Fashion and accessories such as bags, zipper pouches, aprons, hair bows, headbands, scrunchies, hats, scarves

    • Children and baby items such as bibs, burp cloths, baby blankets, quilts, soft toys, handmade clothing

    • Pet accessories such as bandanas, collars, lead covers, cosy pet beds, mats

If what you make isn’t listed here but is still a handmade, small-batch fabric product, it’s probably included. Just send me a quick message to check first.

  • The following are NOT permitted under the Artisan License:

    • Making your own colour changes isn’t allowed under this license

    • Printing fabric for sale (e.g. as yardage or wallpaper) isn’t allowed under this license

    • Mass production or factory manufacturing isn’t allowed under this license

If you need broader rights, larger-scale production, or if you want to explore category-exclusive projects, please get in touch about a Commercial License.

Additionally, to protect my artwork and business, these uses are PROHIBITED:

    • You may NOT use the design to sell on print-on-demand marketplaces (e.g. Society6, Redbubble, Zazzle, Threadless, Teepublic, Spoonflower, etc), via print fulfilment integrations (e.g. Gelato, Printful, Printify, Gooten, Amazon Merch, etc), or via any dropshipping services

    • You may NOT create digital products with the design

    • You may NOT resell or share the digital design file itself

    • You may NOT claim the artwork as your own, copy it, or make derivative designs

Designs are © Sue Gibbins. All rights reserved.

  • The Artisan License lasts for 12 months from the date of purchase. After that, you can renew it by purchasing again if you’d like to continue using the design.

  • You’ll receive a high-resolution image file of the chosen design. These are the specifications:

    • Seamless repeat

    • 3600 x 3600 pixels

    • 12 x 12 inch at 300 dpi

    • JPG file format

    • RGB color mode

    • Flattened image (not editable)

    • Watermark removed

This image file and a copy of the license agreement will be downloadable together as .zip.

Image file use must comply with the license.

  • You may have the design printed onto fabric at your preferred scale using the file provided.

Support for scaling the design isn’t included with the Artisan License, so please work with your print partner to achieve the output you need.

  • You’re not allowed to alter the artwork yourself, and each Artisan License covers only one colour version of the design. If you’d like to use the same pattern in several colours, please purchase a separate license for each version.

If the colour you have in mind isn’t available yet, I may be able to create a custom version for you. Just send me a quick message with what you’re looking for, and I’ll let you know if it’s possible for your chosen design. (A fee applies for my Colour Change Service.)

  • You can simply purchase multiple Artisan Licenses: one per design. This keeps things flexible and affordable while supporting continued creative work.

  • There are some designs that aren’t available under the Artisan License. This may be because of other license agreements in place.

However, please do get in touch and ask if you are interested in a particular design. The Artisan License is quite a new addition, and this area of the website is still a work in progress! Please reach out and I’ll be happy to help.

  • Credit is always appreciated but not required. If you’d like to tag or mention me when sharing your work online, that’s wonderful.

You’re also welcome to send me an email with a product photo if you’d like me to spread the word about your beautiful creations.

  • If your production is set to grow beyond the “artisan” level, that’s great news! Please get in touch immediately to request an extension to the license so you can produce additional items (there will be a small top-up fee). At the end of the year of the Artisan License, we can discuss a standard Commercial License moving forward, ensuring your production scale is fully covered.

  • For larger scale production, exclusivity, longer contracts, or to access setup support, please get in touch to discuss a Commercial License. These licenses are tailored to each project, so we’ll take a little time to discuss your needs and agree on the right terms together.
