NOVEMBER

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. After my dear beautiful mum, Avril, lost her battle with the disease in August 2021, our family decided we will take part in a number of events and activities - including my sister Lynn “braving the shave”!!! - to raise funds for the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK. Their focus is funding scientific research into treatments, working towards earlier diagnosis, and support for patients and their families. Pancreatic is one of the common cancers and can be very aggressive, so funds are much needed to tackle it.

In a year we raised £3,574 for the charity in memory of mum. Here’s what we got up to:

  • November 2021: Challenge 24 with Lynn walking 2.4 miles and Sue swimming 1 mile a day for 24 days

  • November 2021: Purple ribbons sold for awareness and fundraising

  • Nov - Dec 2021: Chilli jam made by Jill and lavender pillows created by Sue sold in aid of the charity

  • December 2021: Lynn completed a fundraising 5K run

  • Mar - May 2022: Cake sale, raffle and games in aid of the charity

  • June 2022: Lynn, Brian, Sue and a team of friends summited Snowdon!!!

  • August 2022: Lynn braved the shave after hitting the £3,000 target (pictured above with hairdresser Wendy).
Her long locks were donated to the Little Princess Trust to create wigs for young people fighting cancer.

Huge thanks to family, friends and colleagues who helped by spreading the word, supporting the activities, and donating.

Thanks for your support xoxo
